Transportation

DHS provides transportation services during hypothermia season, as part of the District Government’s commitment to protecting individuals who are homeless from cold weather injury, by meeting the demand for shelter during the coldest months of the year.  

The Homeless Transportation Program provides scheduled and unscheduled transportation services.  Unscheduled transportation is provided upon request through the shelter hotline.  Scheduled transportation is provided to and from shelters in the mornings and evenings, as indicated in the following tables.

* These sites do not remain open after 7 am during daytime hypothermia alerts, so transportation from the New Covenant Baptist Church and the Community of Christ Church is provided only during daytime hypothermia alerts. On alert mornings, the Hotline will call these sites to determine if service is needed. Pickups are made only when there are women at these churches who request transportation.
