Women in District of
  Columbia Government

OWPI Internship Program

Type The Office on Women’s Policy and Initiatives is seeking motivated individuals interested in public service and the women and families in the District of Columbia. Individuals will gain valuable experience by working on projects serving the needs of women’s issues and related organizations in the District. Also interns will gain vast knowledge about the District's various government agencies and functions. Interns will achieve a worthwhile experience to grow, cultivate new ideas, and play a contributing role.

Interns will be supporting OWPI to represent the women before the Mayor, the City Council, and the DC government. Interns will be able to facilitate public programs which serve the women in the areas of public health and safety, housing, human rights and services, economic development, education, and employment. Interns will also have the opportunity to advocate for equal access to necessary public services and facilities for female residents in the District.

Internships are for eight to 12 weeks and are available throughout the year. Work hours and work schedules are determined by the intern's availability. A stipend for the internship may be considered. Applicants should be students (undergraduate or graduate) who possess strong written and oral communication skills, as well as organizational abilities. They must be flexible and willing to take the initiative. Strong computer and research skills are also desired. Most importantly, applicants must be able to work with diverse populations. Bilingual skills a plus, but not required.
